Speckly: Google of Torrents

I have been using Mininova and torrentz for all my torrent searches, but recently my friend told me about this site . Speckly is in a way google of torrent. I say so not only because it looks like google but it even functions like google.

You just need to type-in name of torrent, and it will show results of all related torrents and on which torrent site they are available. Results include torrents from all top torrent sites.

Note- This site, Speckly, doesn't host any torrents and just functions as google and is not illegal.

Good Share Ratio in Torrents

As discussed earlier about importance of seeding in torrents and why should you keep file uploading after torrent download is complete. We also discussed what is Torrent Share Ratio ?

Now what is the good share ratio and what should be its value to be known as a responsible bittorent user? Well best share ratio should be 1.0 or above. This means you have uploaded more than you have downloaded. This way of thinking is vital in the Bittorent community. Although sometimes it is difficult to seed what you have downloaded, just try to make an effort.

Go ahead with this mentality and every top torrent site will be best for you.

Watch Megavideos Without Limit

How to get around Megavideos time limit

There are many ways to get around Megavideos time limit without buying a premium account. We have gathered some tips for you on this page. Please leave us a comment if you know of any other methods. Now read and enjoy your videos!

WATCH OFFLINE
Click play and pause the video as soon as it starts loading. Let it load to 100%. When the video is done buffering, go to the menu bar on your browser and click “File” -> “Work offline”.

Watch the video while you are offline. Megavideo only counts the time you are actually watching the video online, not buffering it. So watching the video offline does not use any minutes of the time limit. You can also load multiple videos and watch them when you want, because they are “downloaded” to your cache. If you close the browser, or clear your cache, however, you will most likely lose the video(s).

When you are finished watching the video, unclick the “work offline” button so you are connected to internet again. Now you can start loading the next video(s), and repeat the process as many times as you want.

DOWNLOAD VIDEO WITH FIREFOX’ DOWNLOAD HELPER
If you’re not already using Firefox, you’re about to get a very good excuse to switch. Install the plugin “Download Helper” in Firefox if you don’t already have it, and open the Megavideo video with your Firefox browser.

As soon as the video starts loading you will see a little icon right next to the address bar. Click the icon and you will get a dropdown-menu with the name of the videofile. Click on the file and save it to your computer. Now you can continue surfing or download more videos. Download helper can be used on most sites with videos.

When the file is finished downloading you can watch it in a media player that supports .flv-files. We recommend using the free VLC player.

DOWNLOAD VIDEO WITH INTERNET EXPLORER
If you are using Internet Explorer start loading the video and then pause it. When the video is finished loading, open the temporary folder of your PC and locate the file. It should have the .flv extension. Open the video in a media player that supports .flv-files, like f.ex. VLC.

HIDING YOUR IP WITH HOTSPOT SHIELD
Megavideo is looking at your IP address to determine how long you have been watching the videos. By using a program that hides your IP you can easily get a new IP address as soon as the time limit message appears. There are some different programs that does this. The most popular and the only one we have tested is Hotspot Shield.

Install the program and click “connect”. It will now assign you a new IP address. Whenever you want you can click “disconnect” to surf internet without using Hotspot Shield.

The program displays some ads, and surfing might be a bit slower while you are using Hotspot Shield then without it. But at least you can watch as many Megavideo minutes as you want. If you only use Hotspot Shield while you are watching videos, or need to hide/change your IP, then it should not be any problem.

By using Hotspot Shield you can also access content that are only available to people from certain countries, like f.ex. certain videos on sites like Hulu, Pandora, ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, MTV, The CW and similar.

RENEWING YOUR IP WITH THE ROUTER
If you have dynamic IP you can turn off your router for 30 seconds and then turn it back on. Your IP should be renewed now and your time limit reset. Restart the router again when you get a new error message from Megavideo.

RENEWING YOUR IP WITH IPCONFIG
If you have dynamic IP but no router, you could try the following:

Press the Windows start button and click run, or type Windows+R. In the “run window” type either CMD or Command and a black rectangular box should pop up.

Type “ipconfig /release” and hit enter. You will now be disconnected from internet. Type “ipconfig /renew” to connect to internet again and renew your ip address. Exit the application and you will now have reset the Megavideo time limit. Repeat the process as soon as you get a new message from Megavideo that you have exceeded the time limit.

From Mininova .Fan's Guide
GO PREMIUM
If you watch a lot of videos on Megavideo you might go tired of the workarounds in the long run. The best is of course a premium account – no more time limits and no more ads. And there is a way you can get it for free. Megavideo have a reward program that gives you points for views on videos you upload. These points can then be exchanged in to a premium account.

You need a lot of video views though, so you might as well just start uploading right away… And if you need traffic to your videos just send us the link and we can place it on our site. When uploading videos to Megavideo we recommend using their Megamanager. It goes a lot faster to upload videos through the Megamanager than from the website.

Torrent Health

Health meter of a torrent:I am sure many of you have many of you might have seen it on various top bittorent sites. Now what exactly is "health of torrent"? Frankly speaking its not much of importance. Why?

Health usually refers to the ratio of seeders to leechers and the raw numbers for each of those, and sometimes the total bandwidth in use by the torrent. Note:none of the three alone can constitute a good measure of a torrent's health, and even combined, the torrent 'health' is pretty much arbitrary, and can't really predict how fast or slow your download will be.

It tells you how many seeders there are. If there aren't any seeders, then it has low health, if there are a lot, then it has good health. The amount of seeders will tell you how slow of fast a download is. It also tells you if you can download it at all. Sometimes, you can add trackers to increase the health of your torrent. The trackers point your torrent downloader to the direction of other peers.

Today I downoaded x men origins wolverine torrent which had a suffix of AXXo and I feel cheated now. Axxo Torrents have great reputation in Bittorent world are most sort-out releases on Mininova.

This invites fake hackers to use the name of AXXO to fool people. Same thing took place with me in case of xmen origins wolverine torrent. So please beware and don't be fooled by number of seeds, peers, or leechers associated with this fake copy.

What are Torrents?

Recently one of my friends asked me "what are torrents?". I was like... So for newbies here is the answer, which I hope will help you to feel better in the world of Bittorent.

"BitTorrent is a file distribution system used for transferring files across a network of people and torrents are specialized files utilized in peer-to-peer (P2P) network environments." Now what is this "Bittorent", "Peer to peer"? I suggest you go through my blog a bit to get in depth knowledge about these terms. Or just bear with me as I try to make you understand these torrent lingo in brief.

Lets take the case how a simple file is downloaded from internet? You click on the link and website’s server starts sending the file to your PC. Simple. But what if server of website is too busy or crashes during file download, and horror of horrors that file is of 400+ MB? You just feel like throwing away your PC!

Here bittorent technology comes to your rescue. With torrents you can rest assured you will never face any of these problems. Here you don't have single source which is sending you the packets of Data. Instead, torrents contain specific information that multiple computers in the network can read to send various parts of the requested file simultaneously. Torrents keep active track of which parts of the file are needed to complete the request. By downloading bits of the file from dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of sources, large files can download very quickly. At this point go ahead read about seeds and peers.

What is a tracker in Torrents?

A BitTorrent tracker is a service on the internet that assists in the communication between BitTorrent clients. When you open a torrent file, your machine contacts the tracker and asks for a list of seeds and leechers to connect to.

A Bit Torrent tracker centrally coordinates the P2P transfer of files among users.
Tracker software serves up torrent files for download from a Web site. The tracker maintains information about all BitTorrent clients utilizing each torrent. Specifically, the tracker identifies the network location of each client either uploading or downloading the P2P file associated with a torrent. It also tracks which fragment(s) of that file each client possesses, to assist in efficient data sharing between clients.

Utorrent

uTorrent is the one of the most popular BitTorrent clients. Why? It has most of the present in other BitTorrent clients but is very light-weight. µTorrent is very efficient and unlike other torrent clients,it doesn't "eat up" system resources typically uses less than 6MB of memory, making you feel as if it weren't there at all. And best thing is its download file is less than 220 KB in size. Go Ahead Download Utorrent.

Super-seeding mode in utorrent, vuze, azureus & other torrent clients

I am sure many of you may have come across super-seeding term in your torrent download softwares(torrent clients). First of all I would like you to go through some bittorrent terminology like seeds, peers, leechs.

Ok, lets learn a term super-seeding seen in torrent clients like utorrent, vuze & azureus. After you have completely downloaded a file through torrent and when a file is new, much time can be wasted because the seeding client might send the same file piece to many different peers, while other pieces have not yet been downloaded at all. Some clients, like ABC, Vuze, BitTornado, TorrentStorm, and µTorrent have a "super-seed" mode, where they try to only send out pieces that have never been sent out before, theoretically making the initial propagation of the file much faster. However the super-seeding becomes substantially less effective and may even reduce performance compared to the normal "rarest first" model in cases where some peers have poor or limited connectivity. This mode is generally used only for a new torrent, or one which must be re-seeded because no other seeds are available.

Can I preview Torrent files before they have been completely downloaded?

If you ask me directly, I would say "depends". Because the BitTorrent protocol downloads pieces in arbitrary order, there is no guarantee that the part of the file necessary for previewing (usually the beginning of the file) is present. To further complicate matters, some torrents are packaged as an archive, which would be quite difficult to extract until it's complete.

Now, what we can do, well you can still attempt to view the file periodically, you may eventually get lucky. Caution: if the file you are downloading is archived (i.e. its a ZIP or RAR file) there is no way you can preview it until its completely downloaded. If that is not the case try opening the file in whatever application is meant to be used to view it, but don't be surprised if any error message pops up.

Torrentz: A torrent meta-search engine

Torrentz is a bittorrent meta-search engine based in Sweden. Being meta search engine, torrentz.com searches other "search engines" i.e. it indexes torrents from various major torrent sites like Mininova, Demonoid, and The Pirate Bay. In simple language Torrentz is like Google, but Google might sometimes link directly to a torrent file – they do not.

A policy statement from Torrentz owner makes it clear what to expect and what not to expect from this great torrent site:-

"Torrentz.com does not host or "make available" any files or torrents in any way, shape or form. It just links to other independent search engines that might host torrent files. We have absolutely no control over those domains.Indexing process is completely automated. We don't check it." No doubt Torrentz is one of the best torrent sites.
